WARNING: CUTE BABY POST

Today I almost wrote one of those awful "I have nothing to blog about" blog posts. Yes, I know, it's sad but true. I was actually two paragraphs into it before I realized I wold rather claw my eyes out than read such a post, and that it wouldn't be fair to inflict one on you. I sat at my computer, staring at the screen, trying to think of something else to say, other than the fact I have nothing to say. I thought about writing on how Barney Frank should be helping the equal rights cause instead of acting like an old bitter queen. I thought about defending Obama's peace prize win, even though I was a bit taken aback by it myself. Of course, then I realized that if I was going to tackle stale topics I might as well just write about who is cuter: Luke or Han. I was always a Luke girl myself, I don't care what anyone says. He was the Jedi, none of it would have happened without him, so just shut it about Han's smoldering looks and charisma. I don't want to hear it.

I think you can all see my dilemma.

So, what, I am sure you are asking, is the point of this post. Have I tricked you into reading a post about how I have nothing to write about, by writing about how much I hate such posts? Well, kinda, but it's worth it, because, without further ado I give you -- wait for it -- MEG IN HATS!!!

One hat...

Two hat.

Red(ish) hat...

Blue hat.

Some hats have birds...

And some are birds.

And some will fit a little later.

Yeah, I know it's a cop out, but I figure since Meg is the reason I have nothing to say (I mean, other than silly baby goop), she might as well pull her weight and help me out with a post. I think it's only fair. After all, I made Sally wear hats after she ate our sofa.

Yeah, okay, I'll keep this post to show to Meg's therapist later. I'll put it in the file with the others...

Walking the Park

It was a perfect fall day for a walk. Not to hot, not too cold. Sun shining, but not in that obnoxious "oh, look at me, I'm the sun" way. The dog was restless, and Ryan and I needed exercise after gorging ourselves on dim sum. We decided to hit the park. We bundled up Meg, and were off. Oh, and the moment we started walking, she was out.

The park nearest to our house is the largest in the city, kind of like the central park of Utah. Ours just has fewer millionaires, and more dirty hippies. On Sunday it is filled with all sorts of different people, most of whom make me feel much better about myself... For instance, there were these guys:

Yes, they are playing beach volleyball in a sand pit that most likely is home to numerous used needles, and E.coli. And they are playing in it without shoes or shirts. I guess some people really like knowing how they are going to die.

This is the weekly "drum circle" that takes place in the park every Sunday. Basically it's just a time for people to smoke marijuana in front of their kids under the guise of a "cultural event." Still, it is nice to know there is still a market for tye dye and patchouli in Salt Lake. Oh, and by nice, I mean horrifying.

Those people are walking on a tightrope. And they weren't the only tightrope group in the park. Actually, I counted three groups total playing on tightropes today. I guess it's the new thing. Better than sword swallowing...

Of course there were tons of dogs in the park. This one was my favorite. He wasn't pulling much, but he was pulling it with gusto. And he still found time to bark at
every person and animal that walked by him.

We returned home feeling lighter, less jumpy, and a lot more in tune with our neighborhood. Yep, it
was a perfect fall day for a walk.

Walking the Dog

I am taking time out of my contest with Kim in order to write something that doesn't seem like a desperate plea to get people to like me. I mean, yes, I am still desperate, but I have cute dog pictures to post. That trumps my insecurity.

Yesterday was the annual "Strut Your Mutt" fundraiser here in Salt Lake, which is why, if you went anywhere near Sugarhouse Park, you got poop on your shoes. The event is pretty much just a very big walk, and then a fair where every manner of pet product is pimped out. For instance, did you know there is such a thing as dog ice cream? It's true. And we wonder why foreigners hate America.

Many of the teams, or "dog packs," chose to dress up their animals, since, as with all good charity events, there was a costume contest, and a owner/dog look alike contest, complete with prizes. As if the dog ice cream didn't make us look bad enough. I chose not to dress up Sally, since I only like to humiliate her around the holidays. So, as we walked around the park both Sally and I got some good laughs...

Pink bandana. This dog got off easy.

These dogs did not.

These dogs are probably in a mah jong league.

These people decided to spare their dog, and humiliate their baby.

This guy decided to take the hit for his dogs.

Yes, this dog is painted. I am not showing her face to save some of her dignity.

The best team t-shirts.

The reason dogs will eventually rise up and kill us all.

I am so glad I was wearing closed toe shoes. Next year? Well, I have already promised Sally we will practice checkbook charity and just make a donation...

On Shuffle, Again

I thought I had some stuff to blog about, but Ryan said that most of my ideas fell under the heading of "too much information." Yeah, it's nice to have an external filter, since we all know I don't have an internal one... So, here are some more pics, falling under the heading of "vacation" since I am getting ready for a trip to New York, and trying to psyche myself up. All of these were taken in LA during my visit with Tara last month.

This is what happens to dragons who don't obey the code.

The entrance of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. I appreciated that the angel wasn't of the golden curly hair, rosy cheeked variety.

And I thought my childhood was tough. At least my parents didn't literally make me sing for my supper. Or wear stupid hats.

My attempt at an artsy photo of the moon from the window of the plane. Yeah, I'm Ansel Adams.

Now I am off to try on all the pants in my closet to see if any fit. If they don't I will have to wear jeans every day while I am in New York, and I am sure there will be pointing and laughing from the locals. That will probably happen anyway, since I am sure they can smell people from west of the Mississippi.

I will try to blog more before I head off, if I can think of anything that doesn't make Ryan cringe. So, maybe not.

On Shuffle

I really have nothing new to say tonight, and I also haven't posted any pictures in a while. Put the two together and what do you get? Yep, a post of random pictures meant to keep you entertained until I can think of something clever to write. It's kind of like the blog version of jangling keys in front of a baby... Enjoy.

My latest attempt artsy highway photography. Good thing I write for a living.

Near out favorite fishing spot in Heber, Utah. Well, Ryan fishes there. I just mock the dog, read books, and drink wine.

Near the same spot in winter. Just after taking this picture we threw rocks to break the ice. I love doing that.

MAD DOG! MAD DOG!

A board meeting at my house. These guys advise me on all my decisions, which may tell you more about my life than anything I will ever write on this blog...

My parents cat, Smarty. He sought rescue in the ceiling after seeing that Luke got one of these for Christmas.

Okay, now go take a nap. I'll be back with more tomorrow...

Abstract Art

Digital cameras are brilliant. I remember as a kid wanting so badly to take picture but being told that we "didn't want to waste film." With digital cameras though You can hand a kid a camera and let them go to town --as long as they don't break it. If that happens, you have to kill them.

Today Ryan took our camera out to the home of some of our nieces and nephews while I was working hard for that double time holiday money. Ahh, Memorial Day. Why do people even have these events each year? We could just rerun the old tape and no one would notice. I mean, except for the hairstyles. But I digress... I think you will enjoy these pictures as much as I did.

One of about 4-hundred dog pictures.

Trying to capture the rain.

Running over America.

What wags the dog? Republicans.

This is your brain on drugs.

Grumpy

Yeah, I know, I haven't posted in the past few days -- not even an interesting and slightly annoying news story. The reason is partly that I have been busy, and partly that I have been in a rather bad mood. When I'm like this I prefer not to inflict myself on anyone I haven't married or rescued from the pound. Really, you should see Sally roll her eyes when I get started on a mood like this one -- it's amazing how a dog can be so understanding, and yet so condescending at the same time.

I'll post more tomorrow, but right now I have a pie to bake, a book to read, a couch to order, and a dog to walk. So, bide your time and there will be fresh Libby Logic tomorrow.
