And Now, The Tears

One month ago...
Me: I think I am going to dye my hair.
Tara: By yourself?
Me: Yeah.
Tara: Don't.
Me: Why not? I'm not going to do something radically different. It will just blend in when my hair grows out and gets lighter in summer.
Tara: Really, don't.
Me: I don't have time to go to the salon and get it done. And my hairdresser just raised prices again.
Tara: I am warning you.
Me: I can totally do this.
Tara: It will end in tears.
Today...

Sometimes I really hate Tara.

I feel like I must chant and make a sacrifice to the gods every time I attempt to color my hair at home. I can understand the tears.

Dammit Libby! Email me what product you used, and I will help you fix this. Next time listen to Tara.

I don't know, maybe it's because I'm a guy, but I don't think it looks bad. Like you said, it will blend in as it grows out and will look good. Of course I've never dyed my hair, so what do I know?

Now I know why I spend over 100 quid every 6 weeks to get my hair coloured, yeah I'm a vain bastard, who can't stand my greying hair. What can I say?

The only time you are ever allowed to dye your own hair is when you are 13 and sneaking and doing it at a friend's house while her Mom is at work.

Same goes for piercing your own belly button.

Chelle may be on to something....

I rationilize going to Jennie to get my hair done by never ever going shopping. I may be wearing rags, but damn, my hair color looks good.

Sigh.

I've been coloring my own hair since I was about 12 or 13. The lessons I've learned over the years are...

1. Never go lighter by yourself.
2. If you go lighter by yourself, don't do it at 12, or go swimming right afterward.
3. Never let a man pick your haircolor.
4. Black is a bitch to grow out, or color over.
5. My hair will probably be black forever due to #4.

Woohoo! I love it when I'm right! I mean...it doesn't look that bad...
Also, I just cut bangs, so feel free to reap your revenge in 3,2,1...

Really?
Again, really?

You do know that both Cate & I are well versed at coloring & could have at least helped you.

Now all we can do is mock you - more than we usually do.

I'm an awesome hair dyer. Just last year I was putting highlights in a friend's hair and we stopped to watch part of a movie and open a bottle of wine. When the movie ended I remembered we should rinse her hair. Ooops.

It took me approximately 3 unfortunate home perms, countless crooked bangs, and every shade of orange hair possible before I learned this lesson.

I will occasionally touch up my roots in-between professional hair-coloring visits. But that's about the extent of it. My sister once let me give her highlights. Once. Never again. I don't think they looked that bad...

I've been there. Hang in there. Shit, I didn't mean for that to rhyme!

Oh my. I just started doing it at home again. I haven't had this experience, but I am kind of freaked out again.

I last did my own hair when I was in middle school. After being called Tiger for weeks (because of the STRIPES), I have yet to work up the courage to do it again.
