Meg Doesn't Do Homonyms

Meg is now past the age where I can take her into a toy store without fearing total bedlam. She no longer will just sit on my hip, content to look just with her eyes and not her hands. Now she wants to push off from me like a rocket, launching herself towards anything that catches her fancy. She never really focuses on anything for long, instead just trying to take everything in, making sure she doesn't miss anything. Oh, and the smaller something is? The better.

The other day we found ourselves at a toy store that specializes in rubber figurines. You know, the kind that every kid collects, and that every parent eventually almost cripples themselves stepping on. Meg was enraptured. I had no idea how I was going to get her away. She wandered from shelf to shelf, oohing and ahhing, and very carefully picking things up and putting them back. I was just about to resign myself to having to buy at least one to get her out of there when she turned around and smiled, holding a very small, very determined looking knight. "Did you find a knight," I said. "Knight?" she answered. "Yes, that's a knight," I replied. She looked perplexed, and then very carefully turned around and placed the little figure on it's side. "Night, night," she said, and led me away from the figurines, her finger against her lips in a "shhhh" gesture.

Best trip to the toy store ever.

Completely.Awesome.

And enviable. With a 4 and 7 year old, toy stores are like the sixth circle of hell.

Cutest. Thing. Ever.

Be careful; if she's taken a liking to little toys, she may forget to put one back and next thing you know, you'll have an accidental theft on your hands!

That is awesome. When my nieces were small, I used to tell them not to be a penny. Who is Penny? She is your older sister. I don't have an older sister. That's right, because she wouldn't listen. DON'T BE A PENNY.

They, of course, never took any of us seriously. Way too smart for that, those girls, and well aware of how beloved they are. And now they are 18 and 19 respectively, and do the same thing to their five year old sister.
It's amazing we're not all locked up.

My little sister is 10 and still loves miniatures and figurines. To the chagrin of those of us who accidentally sit/step on them...

BONUS! Mr. 4 is convinced that he NEEDS something every where we go. That is why he will never ever EVER step foot into Toys R Us with me until he is fully employed.

So sweet.

Good thing you were able to leave the knight in the store. Stepping on him would have hurt like the devil.

Awww... sweetest thing ever. I do remember those days. I tried to avoid the toys like the plague. Whenever we went to Disney we would have to shake the DD's buggy down when leaving. They always had those little end caps stands filled with teeny bendy disney characters... she thought they were grab a handfull for free...lol.

Brilliant!

Also, I never gave you a recipe for what I'm sure are the long-awaited roasted chickpeas. Pretty much just drain and toss them in olive oil, garlic salt, parmesan, watever you want....spread on a pan sprayed with nonstick cooking spray and bake at 400 degrees for 12-15 mins.
