The Greatest Blog Post in the History of Blogging

I had the best idea for a blog post last night! I remember it coming to me just as I went to sleep and thinking "that will be awesome." It was funny, and poignant, and topical. It was a blog topic that would bring out the respect and awe of all of humanity, even those who hate blogs. And those who didn't feel awe? They would feel envy. THAT is how good this post was going to be.

I really wish I could remember what it was.

I am pretty sure it had something to do with Meg. Or maybe I was thinking it was awesome because it didn't have to do with Meg, so it would be totally out of the ordinary. I KNOW it had something to do with food, since that's pretty much all I think about this time of year. But, was it food I love or food I hate? Maybe it was food I used to love, but now I hate. Maybe it was about food I wish I hated but really love. Maybe it was about the memory boosting foods I obviously should be eating.

Dammit.

I actually started writing down my blog ideas in my phone earlier this year just for occasions like this. On that list right now? "Ahh bra," and "Dyson guy." Yeah, I don't know what either of those mean either. Neither one sounds like a post I would want to read though.

I really should have written this idea down. I thought about it. Then I thought, "nah, this is too great of an idea to go away." I shouldn't listen to myself.

Could it have been something about the Dyson guy wearing an ahh bra? Or an ahh bra with tornado suction? I'm guessing not.

Maybe you should just move along now. This is embarrassing for both of us.

It's going to come to you in the shower in the morning, I'm sure of it. Until then... waiting patiently.

Damn! And your title got me so hopeful...

I hate when that happens. You get a fantastic idea, and before you can jot it down, Poof!, its gone.

My problem is when I start writing the fantastic idea and about halfway through, I'll suddenly realize that I can't post this on my blog because people would take it the wrong way.

Nuke city for the post.

That happens to me all the time. Then the great idea disappears and I just write another lame post.

By the way, I don't know how you missed "The Christmas Shoes" on my list of awfulness, because it's definitely there.

What is an "ahh bra" exactly?

I'm sure this forgetting issue is mommy brain. At least it's a good excuse, and then I can blame stuff on my kids.

Your phone ideas sound like my husband trying to figure out my list at the grocery store. He asks other shoppers to help him decipher it.

I swear I do this all the time. When it finally does come to me sometime the next day I put a little blurb about it in my drafts. IF Im lucky I'll remember more of it later and it becomes a post.

Hahaha! I love it. Don't worry, this happens to me ALL the time. It will come to you when you least expect it. :)

Glad to know this happens to others. Your last line cracked me up. Moving along now.

I'm doing the walk of shame away from this post.

Yeah I often do that, have a great idea before I go to bed and think it's too good to forget, and by the morning I have.

Maybe it wasn't that good after all?

Ha! Happens to me ALL the TIME. My dad got me an old fashioned dictaphone for the exact occasions when this happens. I never use it.

It reminds me of that episode of Mad Men when Paul was up late, and finally came up with the best idea of all ideas to top Peggy who was always scooping him with better ideas than his, and because he had been drinking scotch all night to come up with the idea, he fell asleep and woke up with NOTHING. Bummer. I get it. (Could I have used the word idea a few more times in that comment?)

This happens to me all the time. What is an ahh bra? Maybe you need to write that one after all.

Aaggh I hate it when that happens! I sometimes think of them in the shower (I think of a lot of useful things in the shower) - maybe I should invest in a waterproof notebook and pencil.

I do these things quite often... about a quarter of the texts I send are small snippets of ideas to myself that I typically never go back and read.

Yesterday, I had a conversation with my girlfriend while we were walking from the store to my car, and we had a twitter-lengthed verbal exchange that was funny enough for me to think that this is the stuff movies are made of.

Neither of us could recall it, though.

It was totally awesome and hilarious, though. ::nods::

I think of the best posts at night when I'm all cozy in bed and too lazy to get up, and of course I promptly forget them in the morning.

Mine frequently come to me in the shower, which is why I should keep some of those kids' bath crayons handy in there.

I've been at a complete loss about what to write lately--I'm really, really hoping the funny/interesting/slight entertaining at least comes back in January.

I blog every morning while I am putting on my makeup. They are great blogs at the time but by the time I get near a computer they are twisted and not quite the awesome blog post they would have been if I had written them as I thought of them. That reminds me...remind me to write about loving my villians sometime. Of course I will have forgotten what I meant by then.

Yeah, one time right before I fell asleep I was steamrolled by the most profound train of thought that would have clearly changed the world had it made it to the wordpress dashboard. Sadly, I decided to sleep on it and it was lost forever along with the how to cook, clean and generally be a good parent manual.
Mankind has lost something vital:(

Great title and idea!

I too have had blog ideas get away from me. I think mine get away because they pretty much suck, but still I would like to think the good ones will come back. Or will they?

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
