I Thought I Was Smart

I am seriously getting my ass kicked at "Words with Friends."

For those of you who don't play Internet games, WWF is basically Scrabble only with two people, so the humiliation is on a personal level. You can play as many games as you want at a time though, so you can risk being humiliated by several people at once in the vain hope that you might, sweet baby Jesus please, beat at least one of them.

So far that strategy has not worked out for me.

Not only are there now several people in my office I can't look directly in the eye, but there is also a Dad at Meg's day care, several people I went to college with, Suzanne from Married Geeks, and I think Sarah Palin.

Oh, and Tara. I can't forget that she is beating me. She won't let me.

I asked Tara to play knowing that she hates Scrabble and therefore hasn't played in as long as I have and probably would be an easy mark. Really, I can't tell you how dumb that was. Since she started what can only be called a "whupping" I have tired several times to convince her I am letting her win. It isn't working though, because she reminded me how much we both enjoy gloating.

Truth be told, I don't really enjoy it though when she's doing it.

I try to tell myself that this really isn't a commentary on my intelligence. That lots of people who are smart and have good vocabularies and consider themselves linguistically gifted aren't good at Scrabble. That I happen to know a large number of people who love Scrabble and possibly spend all of their free time playing when I am doing other things -- like blogging or saving orphaned seal pups from burning buildings. That I will eventually get better at this, and know that "xu" is a word while "xoja" is not. I really wish it was though. That would have saved my ass when I was playing a guy from high school today. Well, maybe not saved it, but made it less sad in defeat.

Maybe I should just wait for a sarcasm based game to come out. It could also be called "Words with Friends" but you would say it differently, so people would get the meaning.

I definitely wouldn't play that one with Tara though. I know my limits.

When people are beating me at Scrabble, moustrap or even the game of life I like to retreat into the world of imagination where I possess the power to level the cornerstones of their world with fire and lasers.
Also? I left this comment three times and blogger ate it.

I've heard that it's a very vicious game. I have an EVO-- so I can't participate. After reading this, I'm a little glad.

This would be bad, bad, bad for me to play. Tempted as I am to give it a shot, it would probably come to dominate my life. That would be bad. Irresponsible even. Telling myself to stay away from the keyboard...

My husband and I are constantly trying to beat each other. Then he started cheating on our game, so I did the same. You'd be amazed at the combination that are apparently words. Now our game isn't who knows the most words, it's who's the best at cheating. Because, you know, it's what the cool kids do.

Just want to make sure you know about the “Words With Friends” website cheat, where you can plug in your letters and get amazingly big and smart words...if you ever get desperate, and want to look people in the eye again. ;)

I would imagine that this doesn't chirp at you like Angry Birds.

There's a plus side to everything...

I'll stick to my on-line jigsaw site thanks.

You have convinced me never to play this game and now I can keep my self-indulgent beliefs of my superior mental acumen:)

I've been on the losing end of every WWF game I've ever played! And yet - I keep on playing. So you may as well add me and start a game. Scenario one: you win, thereby finally regaining your WWF mojo. Scenario two: I win and finally find some meaning in my empty life (I like to be dramatic) :-) Seriously. my user is faerie42. Let's see which one of us finds redeption!

I've not played this yet. We just got Android phones two weeks ago and are starting to explore the 21st century along with everyone else. BUT, I don't know if I can handle it now. I'm a Boggle whiz. George would NEVER play with me because I won all the time. So, I started to let him win on occasion just to keep things fun. Anyway, letting him win just pissed me off because he'd tell everyone he beat me. Not cool. I can't handle not being the smartest person in the relationship. ;-)

Super random, and maybe I missed it, but I think you need to post your feelings about Ann Curry taking over as co-anchor of the Today show.

Ready.....go. lol
