Six Months

From this: To this:

Yes, she is eating a pickle. In fact, despite the warning from our pediatrician not to give her anything other than formula before six months we have been giving her little tastes of things for a while now. Pickles are a big hit, as is miso soup, and avocados. Squash, and applesauce are not. Ryan and I are now reading all the books, looking at all the recipes, and trying to figure out just was to prepare to give her what she needs, and teach her to eat well. We are going to try not to do prepackaged baby food, which means our diets will probably change too. After all, Meg can hardly eat an entire bag of peas on her own.

Eating isn't the only new thing in Meg's life, six months opens up a whole new world of possibilities. For instance, she can now go swimming. Not alone, of course, and certainly not with sharks, but Mommy and Me swim classes are now an option. Music together and Little Gym also start classes at six months. I figure it's never too early to over-schedule our child.

Meg is now sitting on her own, talking up a storm, and chewing on anything that she can get in her mouth. Her sleeves are a favorite, as are burp clothes. Ryan is actually convinced she ate one of the cloths whole, or if she hasn't yet, she will soon. Well, I guess it's fiber.

Oh, how we love this girl.

you know pickles apparently help with tooth cutting... or so I've heard... of course if you look hard enough you'll find anything you want on the internet lol

I always gave my guys little tastes of things too. None of my kids were ever what one would call "picky eaters". At ages 17, 15and 11, vegetables are without a doubt one of their favorite foods.

Looks as though she's one healthy, happy beautiful little girl!

www.wholesomebabyfood.com is a great resource. Both my guys are great eaters and I never used the store bought stuff. Making it at home is pretty easy. What I did was make 5-6 things on a Sat afternoon about once every 3 weeks, puree them, and freeze them in ice cube trays. Then pop them out and put in labeled ziplock bags. Each ice cube is 1 oz. After 2-3 months of that, she'll be ready to finger feed and the need to make pureed stuff decreases pretty fast.

Meg is amazing!

I always gave little tastes too. I don't understand parents who don't have the urge to do that. Come on, who wants to just drink formula for 6 months? Blah. I am sure you can find plenty of advice online and books on how to just feed Meg whatever you guys are eating. It can't be too hard to puree some cooked carrots or whatever. It'll be fun.

It's amazing to see so many changes and advancements. Good luck with the mushy peas, Libby. I still hurl when I see them, just like I did as a baby.

I'd like to see the look on her face after the pickle! My kids are big on avocado too, good stuff. Six months is a great age - so many new things! Yay!

Elijah has been eating avocado since he was 3 months old...it's still his favorite food.

He also loved steamed zucchini, which is random..

Meg is an angel!

Meg is so beautiful! Mack had teeth at 2 months old, she was eating all kinds of things by 6 months, but that was before they told you not to feed them any solids until 6 months, too. She was eating rice cereal at 2 weeks old, it was either that or an 8 oz bottle, she was a fattie. I love giving them a pickle, and a lemon slice...the looks on their little faces. Mack loves lemons to this day.

She's beautiful! I read your post about your plumber. My sister adopted her two kids and it has been amazing the things people have said to her. I have to admit, though, that I have said one or two things I didn't realize were insensitive. I guess it is easy not to think when it's not you.

On the other hand, I have a son with autism and boy, I cannot even begin to say all the stupid things people have said. I am trying to use those opportunities to educate people. Anyone can say stupid things, but if they are willing to change when we point out their stupidity, everyone wins!

I just want to eat her up! (Pun completely inteded)

What a cutie pie. My baby girl is just weeks away from the big 6 month marker. I wasn't thinking that pickles would be a first food, but..... now you've got me thinking!
