Bread Alone

I am (once again) on Weight Watchers. For those of you keeping track at home this is the fourth time, and the second time I have actually lost weight. It is also the first time I have ever gone to the meetings. I blame that on my friend Meghan, and her sick sense of humor. Doesn't she know it's much easier to lie about your weight when you do it at home and enter it on line? Well, if she does she doesn't show it.

The meeting we go to is full of crazy people, including one woman who yells out "
steamed vegetables" whenever the leader asks for weight loss tips. Actually, if the people in the meeting weren't fat, I would swear it was a meeting of people with eating disorders, and who don't want to get rid of them. Really, you should hear them talk about how to lose weight. All of the "tricks." You know, like only eating the egg whites. Filling up on water before you eat so you can't eat much. Taking bites of a forbidden food and then spitting it out. I am expecting a lecture on laxatives any day now the way things are going.

I am not saying that I haven't learned anything useful. For instance, I have found that I
actually prefer olive oil on pasta instead of butter. That there are ways to prepare vegetables that makes them not taste like vegetables. That there are whole wheat pastas that don't taste like whole wheat pastas. Oh, and that there is no real substitute for bread -- no matter how hard they try to pretend.

Above is the bread Weight Watchers recommends. Sara Lee "Delightful." You can eat two slices of it for one point. For those of you who don't know the system, I won't explain it so your head won't explode. Just know that normal bread is one slice for two points. Really good bread (like Great Harvest) is three points. So, I could trade one slice of really good bread for six slices of the Sara Lee. Oh, and then I could use those six slices as coasters.

The people at Weight Watchers claim this bread is "just as good" especially when it comes to making sandwiches. Well, I guess, but in order to make it palatable I had to greatly go over my point with fillings. Mustard is supposed to be a "zero points" add on, but I had to put so much on it counted as seven. I am guessing the people who like it are not really carb addicts like me, and are willing to eat this so they can enjoy things like bacon. I, personally, would rather have the turkey stuff, and eat real bread.

And I am not even going to spit it out.

The steamed vegetable woman is married to the guy at golf tournaments who yells "Get in the Hole!" every time a ball is hit. You know this means that I'm going to have to lose weight now too? I will not be the last fat girl standing.

What! Blasphemy, I say! Choosing bread over bacon! I am just in shock, I tell you, terrible shock. You should try the shake diet. Muwahahahahahahaha!

I have done WW several times too and have lost the same 25-40 pounds again and again. I have to go to the meetings to stick with it, but oh, the crazy. Those people make me all stabby.

I laugh because it's true. So, so true. Except for anything that has to call itself delightful in huge, giant letters. When something does that, you just now it's trying to overcompensate for something. Heaven help me, I'm a carb lover on the WW wagon, too. I've never met a baked potato I'd not run away with.

Yeah....spitting out good food...that just seems wasteful.

I just don't use bread anymore.

And I can't follow those WW rules. I count my own calories during the day and control my intake. It works for me because I'm a rebel AND a control freak.

But my momma lost 60 pounds or something close to that on WW. So it must be ok.

I have WW online twice, never once went to a meeting. First time, I did lost weight. After baby #3 I tried WW again, but said F*** it after one month. A month of which I lied and cheated on WW like a dirty whore. Maybe I should have tried the meetings.

I am a carbaholic. I love bread, and that is not bread. I would never make it on the WW. All my favorites would have to go bye bye. I'd be crying.

1. Good for you for giving it a go.

2. I also love carbs and that bread scares me.

3. Does this take all the fun out of grocery shopping?

You go girl...that bread's cr*p, personally, I make my own with real milk & butter, but I confess, I lost 30ish pounds on WW..I've kept it off & I eat homemade bread that tastes delish :D

I'm doing it, too. Kill me.

The trick to WW is to eat what you want and count the points for it. What you need to learn is not to eat cardboard bread but to eat smaller amounts of good bread. Portion control is the key. I got my lifetime on WW too and have fallen off the wagon, but I refuse to do it eating foods I don't even like.

That being said, I had a great group.

Best of luck to you. Hopefully you will have better luck and more willpower than I have been having this time around.

Yeah, well..I totally agree with melistress..eat small amounts of the good stuff..forget the cardboard & unbuttered, paper popcorn. Portion is key. I too did WW & lost a goodly amount of weight & have kept it off for 3ish years not doing WW. But, it taught me to control portion & I will not be falling off the wagon ever again, as I will continue with their logic, you might say, for the rest of my life. If I want chocolate, I buy the best, (Godiva), then it only takes a wee bit & you're satisfied. The cheapy stuff leaves you dissappointed & wanting more...goes for everything. Good luck..it's the best program I know of.

Loved your post about WW. I too am a habitual joiner. Wonder why it is so difficult to stick to. Seems easy enough...I have had success in the past. If you want to read my experiences with weight please visit my blog:
